Eakins disappeared in 1971,
at the prime of his career. He was last seen in Trieste, and
I have compiled here the only surviving evidence of his Triestine
adventure. Though Italian authorities have declared him dead,
Eakins is still spotted with some frequency in the hills surrounding
Trieste, the region known as the Carso.
