The Eakins Center is devoted to the study of
Constance Eakins, master litterateur, belletrist, and explorer
extraordinaire.
The Center was established at Yale University
in 1982 under the leadership of its first and only director,
Barney Dylan, following the University’s acquisition of
the Mr. C— library,
a bequeathment from an anonymous donor. This vast collection
of Eakins books and other memorabilia, amassed over forty
years, has been augmented in recent decades years through
the concerted efforts of Mr. Dylan, and by the generous donation
of his own personal collection.
The ECAYU
sponsors and supports educational, scholarly, and public service
projects related to the study of Constance Eakins, world exploration,
linguistics, language acquisition, and criminal law. It also
sponsors the annual Why We War Essay Prize.
